Matteo Fecchio, PhD

Instructor in Neurology, MGH

Matteo Fecchio is a biomedical engineer from Italy. After completing his degree at the University of Pavia, he received his PhD in Physiology from the University of Milan. In the laboratory of Professor Marcello Massimini, he investigated the role of bistable cortical dynamics in the reduction of the level of consciousness occurring in unresponsive wakefulness syndrome and slow-wave sleep compared to wakefulness. To this aim, he learned how to perform TMS/EEG measurements in healthy controls and patients affected by disorders of consciousness (DoC) and developed several tools to analyze EEG responses to TMS. He joined the NICC lab of Dr. Brain Edlow in 2020 to apply TMS/EEG to measure brain complexity and consciousness in DoC patients.
